Elizabeth Brill Shenk, 96, farmer’s wife, cafeteria worker at Mastersonville Elementary School

Elizabeth Brill Shenk, 96, of Manheim, passed away Friday June 5, 2015, at Lancaster Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Susan Young Brill. She was the wife of the late Layser N. Shenk for 72 years prior to his death in 2012.
She was an active member of Chiques Church of the Brethren in Manheim where she was the oldest member. Elizabeth was a homemaker and helped her husband on their family farm in Mastersonville. She was also employed for many years by Manheim Central School District as a cafeteria worker at the former Mastersonville Elementary School. She was also employed by the former Rufus Geib Bus Co. where she provided transportation for students attending parochial schools. Elizabeth was a 1937 graduate of the former Elizabethtown High School. She was also a member of the Mastersonville Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and the former Farm Women Society No. 2. In her younger years, she was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, tatting, and braiding rugs. Her interest in quilting resulted in her creating quilts for each of her children and grandchildren, as well as for others.
She is survived by three children: Larry J., husband of Georgia L. Blecher Shenk, of Manheim; Brenda Shenk Palsgrove, wife of Edwin W. Palsgrove, of New Windsor, Md.; and Linda K., wife of Gene G. Bruckhart, of Lititz; a son-in-law: Kenneth S. Hoover, husband of Donna Lefever Hoover, of Elizabethtown; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Ruth Y. Smith of Elizabethtown.
She was preceded in death by a daughter: Barbara A. Hoover; and two sisters: Ethel Freeman and Anna Morris.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 12, at 2 p.m., at Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 N. Penryn Road, Manheim. There will be no public viewing. Private interment will be in the Chiques Cemetery. The family will receive guests at a reception in the community room at Pleasant View immediately following the service.
Please omit flowers. If desired, contributions may be made to the benevolent funds of either Chiques Church of the Brethren, 4046 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, PA 17545 or Pleasant View Retirement Community.
