Dorothy Mae Loar, 93, raised black Angus steers in her youth, homemaker, enjoyed golfing

Dorothy Mae (Shaubach) Loar, 93, a resident of Luther Acres, Lititz, passed away March 19 from natural causes.

Born May 22, 1921 at home in Paradise, she was the daughter of the late Parke and Mary Alice Rohrer Shaubach. Dorothy was married to the late Carl K. Loar, a World War II veteran, Purple Heart recipient, and former owner of Loar-Young Inc. Dorothy had been a widow since July 1995.

Dorothy lived and worked on the family farm black Angus steers were raised. In 1937, the family moved to North Decatur Street, Strasburg. She was a 1939 graduate of Paradise High School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing golf. She was a lifetime member of St. John’s Methodist Church, Paradise, and member of James Buchanan Chapter No. 315 Order of the Eastern Star in Lancaster, and American Legion Auxiliary Post 409, Paradise.

She is survived by daughter: Donna Weaver of Twinsburg, Ohio; Barry (Kimberley) Loar of Lancaster; Lauri (Kerry) Stauffer of Lititz; grandsons: Christopher Weaver of Houston, Texas; Matthew (Alexandra) Weaver of Portland, Ore.; and three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by four siblings: Robert (Julia Berrier) Shaubach, Park Shaubach, Ruth (Paul) Shaubach Longenecker, and a stillborn twin brother, Donald.
