Doris M. Parmer, 91, McGuire Air Force Base retiree, enjoyed needlework and singing

Doris M. Parmer, 91, of Manheim, passed away on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim.

Born on May 2, 1926, she was the only child of the late Charles S. and Margaret F. (Fry) Lefever. She was the widow of Lester R. Parmer, CMSgt. USAF Retired, who died in 1987.

Doris was raised in Lancaster’s Cabbage Hill and graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1944.

She was employed in the office of Posey Iron Works until her marriage in 1953. While living in Mount Holly, N.J., she was employed at McGuire Air Force Base, retiring with 30 years Federal Civil Service in 1995. She then moved to Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim.

Doris liked to solve crossword puzzles, do all kinds of needlework, and enjoyed singing. She recalls her youth spending many happy summers swimming and boating with family and friends in the Susquehanna River at Pequea.

Doris was a member of Holy Trinity United Church of Christ in Willingboro, N.J.; Air Force Sergeant’s Association (A.F.S.A) Auxiliary; the A.A.R.P Foundation; and the Lancaster Chapter of National Archive & Retired Federal Employees’ Association (N.A.R.F.E)

A graveside service was held Oct. 13 at Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster.

To honor Doris’ giving spirit, donations in her memory may be made to the Benevolent Care Fund, Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 N. Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
