Donald R. Rothfus, 96, WWII vet, ran Yoder’s Restaurant & Bar, race car enthusiast

Donald R. Rothfus, 96, of Lititz, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Luther Acres, Lititz.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Frederick and Elsie Ruthart Rothfus. He was the loving husband of the late Janet E. Yoder Rothfus, who died in 2008; and G. Louise Mathiot Rothfus, who died in 1947.

For over 40 years, Donald owned and operated the former Yoder’s Restaurant & Bar, Lancaster which is currently American Bar & Grill. He graduated in 1940 from Manheim Township High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Donald was a member of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lancaster. A race car enthusiast, Donald was a driver and past officer for Lanco Micro Midget Racing Club, Newmanstown. He also enjoyed watching sports, playing pinochle, and he loved to spend time with his family.

Surviving are three children: Diane M. Yeagley of Lititz; Donald B., husband of Sandra Rothfus; and Douglas R., husband of Kathleen Rothfus, both of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Anna Wetzler of Lititz.

He was preceded in death by two sons: Richard C. and Gary W. Rothfus; and two brothers: Richard R. and Earl R. Rothfus.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 216 S. Broad St., Lititz, on Saturday, April 14, at 11 a.m.. There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Intermen will be t in St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery, Neffsville.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of his sister, Anna, those desiring may send contributions in Donald’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
