Donald L. Hedgecock, 93, fought in WWII’s Battle of the Bulge, active in Lititz Lions Club

Donald L. Hedgecock, 93, a resident of Moravian Manor, passed away Friday Dec. 12, 2014.

He was born in Nebraska and was the son of late Albert T. and Leona Woolery Hedgecock and husband of the late I. Wilma Dirian Hedgecock who passed away in 2007.

Don served in the Army during WWII and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a graduate of Lebanon Valley College where he majored in chemistry and worked at a government lab in Maine until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of the American Chemistry Society, and a Mason, but one of the priorities in his life was the Lions Club. He became a Lion in 1959 at the Searsport, Maine Lions Club and transferred to the Lititz Lions Club in 1979. He filled just about every position a Lion can fulfill including District Governor of District 14-I in Maine. He became president of the Lititz Club in 1982-83. He is a Melvin Jones Awardee, one of the highest awards for a Lion to Achieve and continued to attend Lions meetings until very recently.

He is survived by daughters: Jeanne Marie Smith, wife of Donald L., of Mt. Joy; and Patsy Anne Gravesande, wife of James, of Venice Fla.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by siblings: Albert, Henry, Rex, Eva, Stella, and Dorothy.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Don’s Life Celebration Service from Spacht Funeral Home 127 S. Broad St., Lititz, on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. R. Victor Shifler officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Moravian Cemetery.
