Deaths of Local Interest

L. Miller

Leroy "Tony" Miller, 63, of Holtwood, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 31, 2011. Tony was, among other things, a Vietnam veteran, recipient of a purple heart, an aluminum worker, a family man and the partner-in-crime of an oversized German shepherd. His daughter, Amanda, wife of Orlando Cruz, lives in Lititz.

C.H. Siegrist

Catharine H. Siegrist, 99, of Lancaster, went to be with her Lord Saturday, July 31, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Catharine was a homemaker and a member of Lyndon Mennonite Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and active in the ladies sewing circle. Her daughter, Ruth S., wife of Christian K. Breneman, lives in Manheim.

G.G. Herr

Glenn G. Herr, 87, of Lampeter, entered into the joyful presence of his Lord and Savior Saturday, July 30, 2011 following a brief illness. Along with his family, Glenn operated Herr’s Flowers, Lampeter. He was a life member of Willow Street Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday school. His daughter, Carol, wife of Daniel Neff, resides in Manheim, and his brother, Carl B. Herr, lives in Lititz.

C. J. Stover

Carolyn Joanne (Bechtold) Stover, 77, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Saturday, July 30, 2011 at her home. During her working years, she worked at the Brownstown Texaco Station, which she owned and operated with her husband for 44 years, and was a crossing guard for the Brownstown Elementary School for 40 years. Her son-in-law, Duane H., husband of the late Shirley Rowe, lives in Lititz.

E.H. Zimmerman

Emma H. Zimmerman, 90, of Shippensburg, formerly of Bareville, entered into rest at her daughter, Mary’s residence Thursday, July 28, 2011. Emma was a member of Meadow View Mennonite Church and a former member of Groffdale Mennonite Church (Groffdale Conference). Her sons, Titus S., husband of Mary (Martin) Zimmerman, and Isaac S., husband of Ada (Leid) Zimmerman, live in Lititz.

A. Gol

Anna "Ann" Gol, 80, of Akron, and formerly of Lititz, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Moravian Manor in Lititz. Ann was a courier for over 15 years, traveling many miles from Lititz to Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., New Jersey, Connecticut and many points in between. She loved to be on the road. Her daughter, Andrea, wife of Charles Rettew III, lives in Manheim.

D.I. Shearer

Dorothy I. Shearer, 89, of Lancaster, died peacefully Monday, July 25, 2011, at the Hospice of Lancaster County in Mt. Joy. Dorothy was a 1943 graduate of the York Hospital School of Nursing. Dorothy was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church and York Hospital Nurses Association. Her grandson, Daniel A. Eyster, and his wife, Jacqueline L. Eyster, reside in Manheim.
