Deaths of Local Interest – Sept. 20, 2018

Betty L. Kohler (Taylor) Dover, 94, of Ephrata, passed away Sept. 14 at Ephrata Manor. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Rothsville. Betty was employed, in earlier years, by the York Corrugating Company, York; and the Mayflower moving company, Red Lion. In later years, she worked in retail sales at Montgomery Ward York. After retiring, she enjoyed loved reading, and a good word search or Sudoku. A daughter, Katherine “Kathe,” wife of Kerry Trimble, lives in Lititz.

Marla J. Eby, 63, of Ephrata, passed away on Sept. 14 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. She was a member of Millbach Conservative Brethren Church in Lebanon County. Marla worked as a secretary/receptionist for Hurst Electric in Lititz, for the last 10 years.

Ella Mae “Sue” (Weaver) Hershey, almost 100, of Brethren Village, formerly of West Lampeter Township, joined her husband Richard “Digger Dick” Hershey and her daughter Barbara (Hershey) Myer in Heaven on Sept. 13. A 1942 graduate of Millersville Teachers College, she was a loving homemaker and bookkeeper for her husband’s excavating business. She was an active member of Farm Women Society 18 for more than 50 years. She was a dedicated and long term volunteer at Conestoga View. Ella Mae was an annual patron of the Jigger Shop at Mount Gretna for more than 85 years.

Angela Scheuerman, 41, of Lancaster, left us to be with the Lord on the morning of Sept. 15. A lifetime struggle with cerebral palsy made communication difficult for Angela, but she always tried in her own way. Angela loved her family, especially her brothers, as well as her caregivers at Keystone Human Services. Whether rain or shine, Angela’s favorite activity was going for van rides. She ate her meals nonstop and just couldn’t get enough. Her brother, Tom Scheuerman, husband of Stacey, lives in Lititz.

Benjamin M. “Skip” Witmer Jr., 83, passed away after a brief illness Sept. 12 at Landis Homes Community. Skip knew from a young age he wanted to fly and was Air Force ROTC. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, and Air National Guard for a total of 60 years and was a private pilot until the end. He worked as a sales representative and board member for the Serta Mattress Company for 28 years. An avid skier and lifetime member of the National Ski Patrol, he skied all over the world
