Deaths of Local Interest – Nov. 29, 2018

Helen A. Eberly, 96, formerly of Ephrata, passed away Nov. 18 at The Gardens at Stevens. She was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lincoln-Ephrata, and worked as a drug store clerk for many years before retiring at the age of 82. Helen was a longtime school crossing guard in Lincoln and was known as “Helen On-The-Hill.” She was also a member of the Lincoln Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. At one time an avid golfer, Helen was a member of the Lebanon Valley Golf Club. Her son, Lamar “Sonnie” Eberly (Wilma), lives in Lititz.

Walter “Jim” Eugene Lewis, 92, of Ephrata, passed away at home on Nov. 20. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Walter worked at the Ephrata National Bank, Lambert Hudnut, Kline Chocolate, taught the sixth grade for one year, and then joined his parents in operating the Akron Restaurant. Walter volunteered at Highland and Clay Elementary Schools in the classroom of Marianne Beck. Walter was an avid golfer. H son, James W. Lewis (Eleanor), lives in Lititz.
