J. Franklin “Frank” Becker, 86, formerly of E. High St., Manheim, went home to be with the Lord May 23 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Frank retired after working as a truck driver for over 50 years at E.E. Shenk and Sons in Elizabethtown. Frank enjoyed attending auctions; he was a faithful worker at the produce auction at Root’s Country Market in Manheim and volunteered at numerous benefit auctions over the years. His daughter, Ruth Ann, wife of Roy Barr, lives in Lititz.

Esther E. “Aunt Mike” Bracken, 81, of Lancaster, died May 24 at Hospice & Community Care. Esther spent much of her career with Bulova as a General Inspector. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she was an active volunteer. Her son, Perry G. (husband of Sharon) Bracken Jr., lives in Lititz.

Alfred S. Breaud, 77, of Manheim, passed peacefully at home on May 26. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Alfred was a member of the American Legion, Post #56 and a life member of VFW Post #1463, both in Lititz. Services and interment are private in his home state of Louisiana.

Ruth Z. Brubaker, 90, of Myerstown, PA, passed away May 24 at her residence. She was She was born in Terre Hill and was a member of the Mt. Zion Mennonite Church of the Weaverland Conference. A daughter, Vera, wife of Dale Hoover, resides in Lititz.

Ellen R. Feister, 98, of Lancaster, died on May 22, following a brief illness. She loved to vacation at Ocean City, Md. and Wildwood, N.J. Ellen drove her car until she was 96 years of age and loved shopping at the former Watt & Shand department store. Her son, Randall Feister, lives in Lititz.

Christine M. Hall, 51, of Lancaster passed away unexpectedly May 16. Chris was a 1981 graduate of Manheim Township High School and worked for various insurance companies. She also worked part time at Scooter’s Restaurant & Bar in Lititz, and volunteered for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Ammon K. Horst, 79, of Ephrata, died May 26, after a brief illness at the Ephrata Community Hospital. He was a member of the Martindale Mennonite Church and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, singing with the Horsts, all games, puzzles, going to the mountains, yard work, and flowers. A daughter, JoAnn H., married to Charles S. Risser; and a sister, Norma, married to Harold Martin of Lititz, live in Lititz.

Barbara Jane Shelly, 83, of Mount Joy, passed away peacefully May 20. She was the devoted and loving wife of Amos K. Shelly with whom she shared 65 years of marriage. The consummate mother and homemaker, she had a lively sense of humor, enjoyed the company of many friends and will be remembered as a loving and thoughtful caregiver. Her sister, Judith Auker, lives in Lititz.

Emma G. Spence of Tunkhannock, formerly of Allentown, died May 17 in the Golden Living Personal Care Home in Tunkhannock. She was an avid walker and participated in bowling leagues for many years before moving to Tunkhannock. Her sister, Helen Groff, lives in Lititz.

Violet J. “Dolly” Steffy, 82, of Akron, passed away May 20 at Ephrata Manor. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and Himalayan cats. She was also a doll collector. During her working years, Violet worked at Pennfield Farms as a packer/handler. Her son, Walter Ream Jr., companion of Tina Vitale, lives in Brickerville. Son Rick, husband of Sandra Steffy, resides in Elm. Son Jeffrey Steffy lives in Lititz.
