Deaths of Local Interest – May 17, 2018

Richard Lamar Deemer, 81, of Ephrata, passed away at home May 7 with his loving wife, Teresa, by his side.Richard was a garment worker and retired from Skips Cutting in Ephrata in 2000. In his early years he loved hunting and fishing; as he grew older, he developed a passion for golf. His daughter, Brenda Jean Hess, lives in Lititz.

Dorothy (Zerbe) Huber, 97, of Adamstown, passed away May 12 at the Gardens at Stevens. She worked as a winder tender at the Bollman Hat Company for 42 years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Adamstown. She was an avid Phillies fan and enjoyed word puzzles. She loved her family dearly, having a special relationship with each of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. Her son, John E. (Linda Woods) Huber, lives in Lititz.

Ethel C. Markel, 100, of Reinholds, passed away May 9 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. She was a member of Swamp Christian Fellowship Church in Reinholds for 75 years, a member of Friendly Circle, and former member of the Reinholds Lioness Club. A graduate of Robesonia High School, she enjoyed reading, word searches, and cooking. Ethel worked as a machine operator for Keystone Nitewear for 38 years, prior to her retirement. A granddaughter, Jackie, wife of John Styles, lives in Lititz.

David Nicotra, 59 of Lancaster, passed away on May 7 at home. David was a travel agent. He enjoyed shopping, stained glass and antiques. He loved to travel especially to Europe, Mexico and around the United Sates. A sister, Estrella Montalvo Sciarrino, lives in Lititz.
