Deaths of Local Interest – Jan. 24, 2019

Grace M. Hernandez, 88, of Ephrata, passed away Jan. 18 at home. She was the wife of Byron Hernandez. A member of New Joy Church, she also attended New Beginnings Church, Ephrata. She was a former Sunday school teacher. During her working years, she worked at Stunzi Silk Mill. A brother, Joseph Knable; and a stepsister: Gloria Himes, both reside in Manheim.

Charles R. “Chas” Miller, 89, of Denver, passed away Jan. 17 at Ephrata Manor. Chas was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He worked as a line foreman for D & E Telephone Company for 41 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of former St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Denver, Ephrata Lodge #665, Rajah Temple, Scottish Rite of Lancaster, Scottish Rite of Reading, Rajah Shrine Club, Lancaster County Shrine Club, V.F.W. Post #6759, and American Legion #429 of Ephrata. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and swimmer. A sister, Ruthann, wife of Larry Greathouse, resides in Lititz.
