Deaths of Local Interest: Dec. 4, 2014

Helen Grace Cook, 86, of Calvary Fellowship Homes, Lancaster, died Nov. 25. Helen served as a Missionary with Scripture Memory Mountain Mission in Kentucky from 1950 to 1973 and then with Faith Venture Visuals in Lititz. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lancaster and enjoyed gardening, singing and sewing.

Jo Etta Dornes, 69, of Earl Twp., New Holland, died Nov. 15. Jo Etta was a former volunteer for the Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. She was employed as a CNA for the Friendship Community of Lititz. Jo Etta was a member of Wheatland Presbyterian Church, Lancaster. She was a 1963 graduate of Solanco High School.

Russell S. Eberly, 81, of Ephrata, passed away Nov. 23, at Ephrata Manor. Russ was a member of the Hopeland United Methodist Church, Lititz. He worked as an elevator operator for Agway and was also a working farmer. Russ served his country in the US Marines during the Korean War. He was a big Green Bay Packers fan, loved watching country western movies and listening to Johnny Cash.

Margaret I. Gutshall, 95, formerly of Stauffertown, passed away Nov. 30 at Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Margaret was last employed by Avon where she started in Sales in 1965. Her home was open for meals or a place to stay. She was a very caring person and always helped anyone in need. Her son, Robert E. Gutshall, husband of Karen, lives in Lititz.

Frank Abraham Nickel Jr., died Nov. 22 in the Masonic Health Care Center in Elizabethtown. Frank was a preacher, minister and pastor, becoming a clergyman after three years in the Navy. He served local churches in Lititz, Paradise and Elizabethtown, before retiring and serving a variety of churches as an interim pastor.

Norma F. Reed of East Earl, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Nov. 27 at the home of her daughter in Rochester, Washington. Born in Redcliff, Alberta, Canada, Norma was a member of the Honey Brook Mennonite Church. She was a homemaker and mother to many. Her son, Donald Reed, lives in Lititz.

Nancy Jane (Kauffman) Balmer Stauffer, 79, of Lancaster, formerly of Leola, passed away Nov. 25 at Brethren Village. Nancy was a member of the Ephrata Church of the Brethren and a former member of West Willow United Methodist Church. Nancy was born and raised on a dairy farm in West Willow. Nancy enjoyed spending winters in Florida, bowling, golfing, traveling and especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.

Robert C. Stoltz, 88, formerly of Ephrata, passed away Nov. 25 at Ephrata Community Hospital. His sister, Imogene Gorton, lives in Lititz.

Robert J. “Rob” Wagaman, 67, of Faith Friendship Ministries Villa, Mountville, died Nov. 23 at Lancaster General Hospital. A gentle soul, he was fondly referred to as the “Mayor of Mountville.” Rob loved his family, food, friends and dogs. He enjoyed going to Barnstormers Baseball games with his aunts and loved family vacations at the shore. His brother, Jeffrey N. Wagaman (husband of Elayne) lives in Lititz.

Norman S. Ziegler, 97, passed away Nov. 26 at Brethren Village, where he had been a resident. Norman had worked as the office manager for Hollinger Glass in Lebanon for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He had been a graduate of the International Accountant Society in Chicago. He enjoyed bowling, golf and was a fan of the Hershey Bears. He was a member of Central Manor Church of God.
