Deaths of Local Interest – Dec. 20, 2018

Kay L. (Kauffman) Horst, 56, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Dec. at her home in Elizabethtown. She was married to Edward L. Horst on Oct. 1, 2010. Kay is survived by her mother: Rachel; and a brother: Todd A. Kauffman (Holly), of Manheim.

John C. Landis, 77, of Akron, passed away on Dec. 10 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. John was a truck driver for Tyson Chicken (formerly Weaver’s) in New Holland. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid motorcyclist. His sister, Amy Orner, lives in Lititz.

Elvin J. Ressler, 78, of Ephrata, passed away on Dec. 14 at Fairmount Nursing Home, Ephrata. He worked as a test analyst for Case/New Holland retiring after 43 years of service. Elvin was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps. He belonged to the New Beginnings Brethren in Christ Church, of Ephrata, and was active in the Evangelical Teacher Training Association. Elvin also was a longtime volunteer at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg. A son, David S. Ressler (Lori J. Luther) lives in Lititz.

Jay Kenneth “Rat” Royer passed away at the age of 87 on Dec. 14, 2018. Ken played football at Ephrata High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a shift foreman for Bethlehem Steel Corporation at Grace Mine, Morgantown, for 24 years, and then was the superintendent at Rohrer’s Quarry in Lititz until his retirement. He enjoyed small game hunting, fishing, and deer hunting at his camp in Sullivan County. He will be fondly remembered for his wit and sense of humor. Ken was always quick with a joke, song or funny story.
