Deaths of Local Interest – Oct. 18, 2017

Marian Helen Johnson Bitzer, 93, died Oct. 7 at Moravian Manor, where she had been a resident since May. Marian retired from Kerr Glass in 1983 after 32 years of service. Marian was a member of Church of the Apostles United Church of Christ and served Meals on Wheels with her husband. She enjoyed reading, loved her dogs and her neighbor’s dogs, and spent hours watching the birds at the feeders in her yard and on bird walks.

Joseph S. Blank, 82, of Christiana, passed away Oct. 13 at home. He was the husband of Malinda E. Smucker Blank. Joseph was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He was a father to 10. His daughter, Fannie S., wife of David E. Stoltzfus; and a sister, Sarah, wife of Ephraim Zook, reside in Lititz.

Christian E. Eaby passed away Oct. 8 surrounded by his loving family. He graduated from Manheim Township High School and later moved to Albuquerque, N.M. There he earned his law degree at the University of New Mexico. He returned to Lancaster County in 1990. He had been in private practice since 1980 until his retirement this summer. Everyone will remember him for his dry sense of humor and quick wit, which will be forever missed at all the family gatherings. His brother, David Jr., lives in Lititz.

Evelyn R. Fausnacht, 90, of Maytown, passed away Oct. 14 at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy. Evelyn was a longtime member of Lawn Evangelical Congregational Church, where she was involved in the choir and The Busy Bees. She retired from M&M Mars, Elizabethtown, in 1985. Evelyn enjoyed soaking up the sun by her pool and spending time with her children and grandchildren at family gatherings. Her son, John H. Fausnacht Jr., husband of Marylin, lives in Lititz.

Mildred Haller, 79, of Ephrata, passed away Oct. 14 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. Mildred enjoyed puzzles and reading. She also loved her cats and birds, flowers, and traveling with her husband. In the early years, Mildred worked for Oregon Manufacturing. Her son, Keith, husband of Simone Haller; and granddaughters: Megan, wife of Derek Feiler, and Alexis Haller, fiancée of Joshua Kreiter, all reside in Lititz.

Wesley M. Martin, 53, of Ephrata, passed away Oct. 12, at home. A father to 10, he was a member of Groffdale Mennonite Church (Weaverland Conference). Wesley enjoyed life as a dairy farmer and raised his family on the farm he grew up on. He was an active member of the West Earl Township Volunteer Fire Company. A sister, Rosene (Shelley) Musser, lives in Lititz.

Cecelia F. Myers, 71, joined her Heavenly Father Oct. 12, A lifelong resident of Lancaster, she was retired from Verizon. Cece was an avid reader and political activist who corresponded with many elected representatives, even receiving mail from the White House. She loved the beach, where she had a residence for many years and was happiest spending time with her family. Cece was the loving caregiver for her mother and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her daughter, Tina Stewart, resides in Manheim.

George “Duck” Jefferson Ott Jr., 79, of Marietta, passed away Oct. 13. He proudly served in the United States Army and later worked and retired from Alcoa. George was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and visiting the mountains. George was a loving husband, father, and brother whose sense of humor will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind. His sister, Georgeanne Gordon, resides in Manheim.

Robert (Bob) F. Pegoretti passed away peacefully Oct. 4 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community with his family by his side. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II in occupied Germany. He retired from Armstrong World Industries in 1989 where he worked for 42 years, most recently as chief inspector in the quality control department. Bob and his wife were members of The Italian Cultural Society and Guys & Dolls. Bob loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting at every opportunity. He was a diehard Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers fan. His daughter, Terry (Teresa) Shelly, wife of David, lives in Manheim.

Fran Plaisted, 76, of Lancaster, passed away Oct. 8. Fran enjoyed bowling and reading. She was a member of the Lancaster Campers and Hikers. She also enjoyed watching old westerns. Her sister, Sharon L. Stauffer (David), lives in Lititz.

Courtney Lynn Stewart passed away Oct. 7. She had a genuine heart and truly, deeply cared for and felt for others. She was widely known for being the “hostess with the mostest,” the creativity behind the scenes. She was the epitome of entrepreneurial spirit; you could find her making chocolates, making soaps, or inventing a new scent. She was always keeping herself busy, but always made sure there was time for her family. Nothing filled her heart more than the happiness she found in her children. Her brother, Jimmy Westlake, lives in Manheim.
