Deaths of Local Interest – May 26, 2016

Herbert Snavely Hess, 95, formerly of Quarryville and, more recently, Millersville, died May 22. He farmed at Runnymede Farm south of Quarryville, and operated a bed and breakfast. He worked as a flock manager for De Kalb Hatchery for 15 years. His daughter, Carol, wife of Jay Mylin, lives in Manheim.

Joy L Huhn, 53, of East Hempfield Township, passed away May 15 at home from complications from ALS. She was a member of the Akron Church of the Brethren. She was a graduate of Conestoga Valley High School and enjoyed playing the flute, reading, crocheting, and crafting. Her son, Adrian F. Huhn, lives in Lititz.

Helen L. Schwartz, 79, of Lancaster, passed away May 22 at her residence. Helen had worked in customer service for more than 30 years at Penn Dairies. She loved to spend time with her and her husband’s families. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, bowling and was a Philadelphia Phillies fan. Her sister-in-law, Joyce Loercher, lives in Lititz.

Marion E. Thompson, 84, of Columbia, died peacefully May 21 at Maple Farms Nursing Center, Akron, after a brief illness. She had worked as a nurse at Conestoga View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lancaster, before retiring. Her stepson, Lyndon Thompson, lives in Manheim.
