Deaths of Local Interest – May 12, 2016

Elsie M. Matz, 88, of Landis Homes, Lititz, formerly of Leola, went home to be with the Lord on May 1. Born in East Cocalico Township, Elsie worked as a machine operator and supervisor at Singing Needles, Leola, for 25 years. A member of Sunnyside Mennonite Church, Elsie volunteered at LGH Gift Shop, Landis Homes, and the Upper Leacock War Memorial Association. She leaves behind her special friend, Leroy Bowman, of Brethren Village.

John B. Tretter, 88, of Lancaster, passed away May 6. A veteran of the Korean War, John retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Lancaster, where he worked as a mail handler many years. He loved bowling, roller skating, and was a PIAA High School football referee and midget football referee. His stepdaughter, Jean L. Vinelli, wife of James M., lives in Manheim.
