Alvin S. “Hully” Hollinger, 86, formerly of Stevens, passed away June 30 at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Alvin was a member of Mellinger’s Lutheran Church, and was a roofer for Richard E. Sensenig Roofing prior to his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman having made many trips to Canada for 28 years. He especially liked listening to bluegrass and southern gospel music.

Karen E. (Shaffer) Polash, 72, of Lancaster, formerly of Landisville, entered into rest June 26 at Conestoga View, Lancaster. Karen had worked as a material handler for R.R. Donnelley. She was the wife of Thomas R. Polash and they observed 51 years of marriage on the day she passed. Her daughter, Theresa L., married to Kenneth E. Smith; and a sister, Cindy married to Leonard Lu, all reside in Lititz.

Robert Parker Shears, 95, passed away June 28 at Luther Acres in Lititz. During World War II, he volunteered for the Marine Corps and fought in the Pacific Theater. After his service, he continued his career at Prudential. He loved his family, and always felt blessed to have had two wonderful marriages.
