Deaths of Local Interest – Dec. 1, 2016

Harry W. Anderson, 86, of Lancaster, died Nov. 24. Harry was a member of Grace Baptist Church and sang in the choir for 42 years also helping teach Bible School. He played in Lancaster Malta Band for 50 years while enjoying singing and playing baritone. Harry served in the U.S. Navy and worked for Armstrong World Industries as a millwright, retiring after 25 years of employment. His granddaughter, Christine, wife of Phil McGaw, lives in Lititz.

Bervin L. Barr, 84, Ephrata, passed away Nov. 21 at Lancashire Hall. Bervin had been a licensed auctioneer, owning Barr’s Auction and later Barr’s Auction and Antique World for more than 45 years. His brother, Arthur Barr, lives in Lititz.

R. Dale Gehman, 59, of Akron, went home to be with Jesus Nov. 22 at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He was passionate about Jesus, his family, and broadcast engineering. He enjoyed star gazing, traveling, photography, and walking his dog in Akron park. Dale was a member of Poarch Band of Creek Indians and served on the Tribal Council for 13 years. His daughter, Hannah, wife of Ovidiu Gabor, lives in Lititz.

Paul C. Hess, 89, of Mount Joy, passed away Nov. 19 at his residence. Born in Lititz, he was the son of the late Jacob and Anna (Erb) Hess. Paul was a farmer and later worked for I.R. Musser Poultry Farm as a driver, and E.M. Murray and Associates as a clerk. He was a member of Mount Joy Mennonite Church. Paul was an avid gardener and enjoyed listening to music. A sister, Peggy Buckwalter, resides in Lititz.

Barbara Ann High, 75, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully Nov. 19 in her home. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her loved ones. Her son, James J. High, husband of Kathieanne, lives in Lititz. Her sister, Brenda Hanson, lives in Manheim.

Margaret H. Snyder died Oct. 15, at age 96. Margaret was an accomplished artist and many of her paintings were displayed or sold through the Albany Institute of Art’s Sales/Rental Gallery. She is survived by her son, Philip, husband of Kluane, of Lititz.
