Deaths of Local Interest – Aug. 4, 2016

Daniel E. Austin, 67, of Akron, formerly of Pequea, passed away July 29 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was in the Merchant Marines, a grounds keeper at Stevens Technical Institute and retired from the Lancaster County Parks Department. His nephew, Cain, husband of Bobbi Austin, lives in Lititz.

Hallie R. Plank, 87, of Lancaster, passed away July 25 at Audubon Villa. In Hallie’s early married life she traveled around country with her family and at one point owned and ran a Twin Kiss ice cream shop with her husband, Bob. In addition to being a homemaker, she also ran the office in the family owned real estate business. Known for her sense of humor, Hallie was well liked with her ability to make people laugh. Her daughter, Deborah, wife of Gerald Haas, lives in Lititz.

Mildred B. Stoltzfus, 82, of Landis Homes, formerly of Hollsopple, went home to be with the Lord July 28. Mildred was a member of the East Petersburg Mennonite Church and loved doing quilt patches and seamstress work. A caring person, she loved serving others. She was the loving wife of Menno K. “Shorty” Stoltzfus. They were married 60 years last August. Her son, Milton, married to Lois Brubaker Stoltzfus, resides in Ephrata.

Jacob M. Weaver, 90, passed away at Harrison Senior Living on July 30. He had worked as a block mason for E.C. Witmer of Strasburg, and also for Tom Lefever. He enjoyed model Lionel trains, and making planters and lighthouses out of stone. His brother, David, husband of Esther Groff Weaver, lives in Lititz.
