Deaths of Local Interest – Aug. 25, 2016

Emma (Weaver) (Hurst) Burkholder, 85, formerly of Ephrata, passed away Aug. 16 at Landis Homes. She was a member of Bethany Grace Fellowship, East Earl. Emma was a self-employed seamstress for many years, and owned Hurst Custom Draperies. She enjoyed sewing clothing for her children and grandchildren. Her stepdaughter, Glenda (Burkholder), wife of Randy Witmer, resides in Lititz.

Ruth Mae (Donley) Donmoyer, 95, of Maple Farm, Akron, passed away Aug. 19. Ruth was a member of Friendly Circle, at Lincoln, and a member of Bethany United Church of Christ, of Ephrata. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, and doing crafts of all types. She worked at Eby Shoe Co. in Ephrata, at Harris’s Department store, and at Doneckers in Ephrata. She is survived by her daughter: Judy (Larry) Meckley; granddaughter: Jeni (Kevin) Martzall; and two great-granddaughters: Danielle and Emalie Martzall, all of Lititz.

John R. Freels Sr., 90, of Manheim, entered Heaven peacefully Aug. 17. John was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Lemoyne, as well as a member of the Moose Lodge, Middletown. He worked for Interstate Truck Line in Columbia for 43 years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather often enjoying family time by going camping, fishing, gardening, listening to country music, and sharing his sense of humor. His son, John Freels Jr., husband of Sherry, lives in Manheim.

Anna Mary Lantz, 87, of Coatesville, passed away Aug. 17, at the Tel Hai Retirement Community. She was a member of Calvary Monument Bible Church of Paradise. She was a homemaker and also assisted her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed cooking, going out to eat and spending time with family and friends. Anna loved to laugh. Her sister, Jean Hostetter, lives in Lititz.

Viola M. Noll, 90, of Kleinfeltersville, passed away Aug. 15 in the Stoneridge Towne Centre, Myerstown. Viola was employed for 36 years at Wilbur Chocolate Co., Lititz. She was a member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Schaefferstown, and volunteered at the Schaefferstown Fire Company. Viola enjoyed crocheting, making afghans, and doilies.
