Ciro Charles Sanicola, 93, Millerstown, Perry County, died July 16, 2015, at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim.

Born in Manhattan, N.Y., raised in Brooklyn, he was a son of the late Peter and Rosaria (Realmuto) Sanicola.

He was a devoted member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Mifflinton. Ciro last worked as a master carpenter with the New York City Transit Authority. A World War II Marine Corps sergeant, he maintained Corsair fighter planes serving on an aircraft carrier in the Asian-Pacific theater. He then worked for Republic Aircraft and McDonald Douglas as an airplane mechanic. He enjoyed vintage WWII airplane shows, swimming, fishing, and playing baseball.

Ciro and his wife were inseparable; he was a loving husband, father, and good provider. Ciro was a true example of humility; always having a kind word for everyone.

He will be sorely missed by his wife of 68 years: Anna Lillian (Greco) Sanicola; children: Dr. Charles P. (Dr. Karen) Sanicola, Hagerstown, Md.; John V. Sanicola, fiancée of Janet Wang, Maspeth, N.Y.; and Maryrose S. (Col. Neil) Vestermark, Denver; grandchildren: Eric, Brett, John, and Peter Sanicola; Julie (Shaun) Johnson; Charlene, Leif, and Neil (Nicole) Vestermark; and Michelle (Alex) Demitri; and great-grandchildren: Mia, Charles, and Jason.

Regretfully, a grandson: Kirk Aaron Vestermark; and Ciro’s brothers: Salvatore, Frank, and Thomas predeceased him.

Services were held July 21 at OMPH Catholic Church, Ephrata. Private burial took place in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Rather than flowers, consider contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
