Blanca E. (Ruiz) Musser, 65, first female chaplain for Lancaster PD, missionary, loved 50s music

Blanca E. (Ruiz) Musser, 65, of North Water Street, Lititz, passed away after a long illness at Conestoga View, July 14, 2015.

Born in Añasco, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Luis Alfonso Ruiz and Julia Cecelia Seguinot Ruiz. She is survived by her husband, John E. Musser; they recently celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary.

Blanca graduated from Lancaster Bible College with a bachelor’s degree in Christian counseling and served the community in numerous ways. She was the first female chaplain for the Lancaster City Police Department and worked as a parole officer and court translator in Lebanon. She spent 12 years as a missionary in Puerto Rico and helped establish three churches, as well as a women’s shelter in Puerto Rico. She played an active role in the development of the Latino Women’s Professional Association, was involved with SACA, and the Lancaster Charter Schools for at-risk youth. Over the years, she developed a passion for helping women with domestic violence. She was a social worker, specializing in Christian counseling at the Lancaster County Prison, helping women with their education and various needs. Mostly she will be remembered as an awesome Mom, who enjoyed reading, collecting bells, and listening to 50s music.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Esther Marie Gonzalez (Rosenberg), Frederick, Md.; and Luis A. Gonzalez Jr., husband of Ivelisse, Lititz. Her grandchildren include: Elaiya A. Gonzalez, Long Island, N.Y.; Hailey T., Caden M. and Gavin S. Rosenberg, all of Frederick, Md.; two sisters: Nereida, wife of Lawrence Chiles, Philadelphia; Elizabeth, wife of Ramiro DeJesus, Lancaster; three brothers: Luis Ruiz Jr., husband of Karen, Lititz; David Ruiz, Tennessee; and Francisco, husband of Karla Ruiz, Georgia.

Services were held July 18 at Charles F. Snyder Jr., Family Funeral Home and Crematory, Lititz, with Rev. Sam Smucker officiating. The interment will be private.
