Betty (Rice) Heitz, 89, Rothsville H.S. grad, Hopeland Mfg. worker, mother of three, upbeat

Betty (Rice) Heitz, 89, of Ephrata passed away on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at home.

She was born and raised in Rothsville, and was a proud graduate or Rothsville High School. She was the third of six children born to the late William and Lydia (Buch) Rice. She married the late Richard Heitz in 1949 with whom she enjoyed 63 years of marriage.

She was the mother of three sons and worked for over 25 years at the Hopeland Manufacturing Company. Active in church and Sunday School, through the years Betty sang in the choir, taught children’s Sunday school and was involved for 20 years with the shut-in visitation ministry of Hopeland United Methodist Church.

Always an upbeat person, Betty anxiously awaited her journey to Heaven to see her Lord, her parents, grandparents, her husband, her oldest son, Rick, her sister, Janie, and many friends and relatives.

She is survived by four siblings: Alma Hollingsworth of Lititz; Bill Rice of Lititz; John Rice Ephrata; and Ida Young of Akron; two sons: Kenneth, husband of Lois of Perkasie; and Timothy, husband of Julie of Ephrata. She has five grandchildren: Thomas Heitz of Atlanta, Ga.; Andrew Heitz of Pensacola, Fla.; Karolin, wife of Ryan Kennedy of Ephrata; Brian Heitz, husband of Nicolina of East Earl; and Stefan Heitz of Ephrata. Also surviving her are five great-grandchildren: Olivia Heitz, Jacob Kennedy, Daniel Kennedy, Wesley Kennedy and Hailey Heitz.

A simple graveside service will be held on Friday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m., at the Hopeland UMC Cemetery, 295 N. Clay Road, Lititz, with Pastor Russ Eberly officiating.
