Betty J. Landis, 80, WHS grad, worked for Hershey & Gibbel Insurance, accordion player

Betty J. Landis, 80, of Willow Street, died at home Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 following a lengthy illness.

Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Edna (Risser) Shenk. She was the wife of Harold S. Landis. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last October.

She graduated from Warwick High School, Class of 1951. Betty worked for Hershey & Gibble Insurance Company, Lititz, from 1951 until 1953, and later for S. Clyde Weaver & Sons at market in Philadelphia. She also served as a house parent with Milton S. Hershey School for Children.

A homemaker, Betty and Harold farmed for many years. She was a member of Willow Street Mennonite Church. Betty enjoyed reading, gardening and playing the accordion.

In addition to Harold; she is survived by four sons: Dennis L. Landis of Willow Street, Douglas E. Landis of Wisc., Dean A. married to Cindy (Kleinhaus) Landis of Willow Street and Darryl R. Landis fiancé of Gretchen Miller of Willow Street; a daughter: Doreen K. Landis of Lancaster; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Lois, married to Leon Hoover of Farmersville.

Betty was preceded in death by a daughter: Debra Landis; a son: Delbert Landis; and a brother: Glenn Shenk.

Services were held Aug. 8 at Willow Street Mennonite Church, with Pastor Bob Breneman officiating. Interment was private.
