Bess W. Hunt, 100, IU13 teacher, elder at First Presbyterian Church

Bess W. Hunt, a former resident of Manheim, passed away on March 6, 2018.

Although her death occurred in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., she was proud to be a Pennsylvanian for almost all of her 100 years. Born in Dagus Mines, Elk County on July 27, 1917, she was the daughter of Brewer and Agda Wellde.

She attended Slippery Rock State Teachers College, received a bachelor’s degree from Millersville University and completed her course work for a master’s degree in special education. While working for IU13, she taught in several local schools, including Ross Elementary in Lancaster and Stiegel Elementary in Manheim. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster for over 50 years and served as an elder and parish visitor.

Mrs. Hunt was married to Frank R. Hunt, who passed away in 1970.

She is survived by her sister: Mae W. Dollinger of Dunedin, Fla.; her daughters: Nancy Hunt Cylke (Owen) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Jane Wellde Hunt of Akron; and Martha Hunt Zaborowski of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by four brothers; three sisters; and one grandchild.

A memorial service is planned for July 21, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 140 E. Orange Street, Lancaster.
