Bernice J. Brown75, LGH nurse, Pathfinders teacher

Bernice J. Brown, 75, of Mount Joy, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 at Lancaster General Hospital, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

She was the wife of Gerald "Jerry" Brown and recently celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary. Born in Lititz, she was the daughter of the late Lillian Getz.

Bernie was a graduate of the former Lititz High School, Millersville State Teachers College and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, School of Nursing. She was employed at Lancaster General Hospital (LGH) in the operating room for 25 years before retiring in 1998. After retirement she worked part-time in the pharmacy of Weis Markets and was also a volunteer at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. Bernie was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Elizabethtown, and served as a teacher for the Pathfinders program. She was active in the Four Seasons Community and enjoyed scrap booking, billiards, playing bridge, reading and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four daughters: Kelly, wife of Martin Murphy, of Mount Joy; Beth (Metzger), wife of Troy Conrad, of Mechanicsburg; Conny Brown, of Lancaster; Holly (Metzger) Ford, companion of Joseph Riddles, of Elizabethtown; and six grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, North Spruce and Oak streets, Elizabethtown, on Nov. 19 at 11 a.m.
