Arnold Krafft, 93, EHS grad, Army Air Force vet, Brownstown Elementary teacher, nature lover

Arnold Krafft, 93, of Stevens, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018 after a brief stay at Ephrata Manor.

Born in Rothsville, Arnold was the son of the late Walter and Ada (Young) Krafft. Arnold was married to the late Margaret Sprecher Krafft; as a widower he met and married June Gibbs Lied, a widow, in 1975.

He is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, June G. Lied Krafft; and three children: Linda, married to Thomas Gotwalt, of Lititz; Steven A. Krafft, married to Sheryl Martin, of Akron; and Christopher L. Krafft of Billings, Mont. His stepchildren are: Scott E. Lied, married to Anita Reich, of Denver; Brent E. Lied and Cristiane Dos Santos of Denver; and the late Stacey L. Lied Welsh, married to John Welsh, of Coronado, Calif. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; as well as a niece and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Edwin and George Krafft; and a sister: Leona K. Brewer, wife of the late Glen Brewer.

Arnold grew up in Ephrata during the time of the Great Depression, which left a lasting impression on his values, and he taught his children the value of a dollar. Arnold was a graduate of Ephrata High School, Class of ‘43. He then went off to the service as part of the Army Air Force, where he served as a 2nd Lieutenant and a B-29 Flight Instructor.

After returning from service, he received an undergraduate education at Penn State University and a master’s from Millersville University. For many years he worked at Sprecher’s Hardware before his tenure as a sixth grade teacher at Brownstown Elementary School, where he spent the rest of his working years.

He enjoyed traveling, especially to Colorado, California, and Europe, giving his blended family the encouragement to travel. He was a man of great moral integrity and filled with good cheer, and whose love of nature was apparent to those who knew him.

The family wishes to thank Ephrata Manor for their tender care in his final days.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 16, from 10:30 to 11 a.m., at the Donecker Chapel at Ephrata Manor, 99 Bethany Road, Ephrata, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Joel Hertzog officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial contributions in Arnold’s memory may be made to a charity of one.s choice.
