Alverta B. Buch, 97, Doneckers retiree, was 75-year resident of historic Buch farmhouse

Alverta B. Buch, 97, Lititz, was listening to her favorite hymns and surrounded by her family when she passed away peacefully Oct. 1, 2014 at Moravian Manor.

Born in Ephrata Township, she was the daughter of the late Omar and Stella Bingeman Balmer and she shared 59 years of marriage with the late Warren H. Buch.

She was a faithful member of the Middle Creek Church of the Brethren, where she was a former member of the kitchen committee and a Bible school teacher. A wonderful cook, Alverta found enjoyment in gardening, reading and swimming.

Alverta’s home for 75 years was the beautiful Buch farmhouse, located next to the Warwick High School, where she hosted family gatherings until recent years. A loving mother and homemaker, she also worked at Doneckers from 1969 to 1992 as a sales associate.

Alverta will be lovingly missed by her children: J. Carl Buch, Lititz; Nadine, wife of Gaylord Poling, Lititz; David Buch, husband of Ruth Ann, Ocean City, N.J.; Betty Jean Shenenberger, companion of the late Gene Clair, who passed away in 2013, Lititz; Warren Buch, husband of Sandra, Lancaster; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by a son: Leon; brothers: Cletus and Victor Balmer; and a sister: Anna Lutz.

A service was held Oct. 6 at Middle Creek Church of the Brethren, Lititz.

Her family requests that in memory of Alverta’s love of her church, donations may be made to Middle Creek Church of the Brethren, 351 W. Middle Creek Road, Lititz PA 17543.
