Lititz just got more Komfy

By on June 6, 2018

Carrying a line of weighted blankets and located at 101 N. Broad St., Komfy Couture is poised to open June 8 in downtown Lititz.

Komfy Couture’s weighted blankets are made with glass beads to create weight that is distributed evenly throughout the product. The beads are sewn in pockets between the outside fabric, and the weight provides pressure or proprioceptive input to the user’s joints, muscles, and bones. This input has a calming effect, and can also help improve sleep. The Lititz location will be the first store on the east coast where customers can try a weighted blanket before they buy. The store will also carry products that focus on naturally calming elements including essential oils and diffusers, as well as bean bag chairs.

“We started as a clothing line for children, and developed ways to make clothing that was more comfortable and does not have any thread touching the skin,” said owner Rachael Wood.
Komfy Couture uses high quality fabric and custom designs blankets for those looking to add their own sense of style. The Lititz location will carry an inventory of their popular styles, and will also have a designer available to help you customize your order. According to Wood, the products offer a host of benefits to the user.

“Weighted blankets are custom made to fit each individual,” she said. “The pressure from the weight on your muscles and joints sends signals to your brain, which then releases serotonin, which naturally calms you.”

Owner Rachel Wood will debut Komfy Couture, a weighted blanket shop, at 101 N. Broad St. in Lititz June 8

“About four years ago, we started making weighted blankets,” added Wood. “I made them the traditional way, with poly pellets (plastic beads). The blankets were bulky and really rough to use, so I researched using glass beads and after a year of testing different sizes, we created the luxury weighted blanket. The glass beads are much smaller and more dense than poly pellets, giving the blanket a smooth, luxurious feel. We developed a way to evenly distribute and ‘hide’ the glass beads in the blanket to eliminate the sleeping bag or quilt look.” All are hand made locally in the company’s studio in Manheim.

“My dream was to have a storefront in Lititz,” said Wood. “It is such a beautiful town and has a lot of niche stores. This is a perfect place to open a weighted blanket store, plus it’s one of the coolest small towns.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on June 8, during Lititz’s monthly 2nd Friday event.

Hours of operation for Komfy Couture will be Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
