Lititz Farmers Market Opens This Week

Everything is officially a go for the Lititz Farmers Market’s 2018 season, which debuts this week at its new location, Lititz Springs Park.

This year, Venture Lititz (who organizes the event) is enthusiastic to announce a new presenting sponsor, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health.

“We are just so excited about market this year,” said Holly DeKarske, executive director of Venture Lititz. “Our new location in Lititz Springs Park and our partnership with LG Health are a win-win for the community.”

The new location promises a family friendly atmosphere to shop, pick up something for dinner, and then relax on the lawn by the gazebo to enjoy live music.

“This year we will have a mix of new and returning vendors, as well as a different musical act each week, and a food truck,” added DeKarske. This week’s entertainment, which will be staged inside the nearby gazebo, will be market favorite Dillweed, who plays old time and traditional music laced with a bit of folk. Look for an advertisement each week in the Lititz Record Express announcing the following week’s entertainment and food truck.

Among the new vendors this season is Lititz-based Edgewood Farms Orchard & Farm Market. Co-owner Sheri Martin is eager to join the weekly downtown event. In business locally for seven years, the company boasts over 1,000 fruit trees.

“We’re excited to be a part of the Lititz Farmers Market, Martin said. “We’ll be selling our fresh peaches, plums, apples, and nectarines.” When asked, she says it’s the one on one experience with the shoppers that she’s looking forward to most. “I enjoy the interaction and meeting our customers, and we wanted to support the local community,” she said.

Raechel Sattazahn, co-owner of McCall’s Ferry Farm LLC, is also looking forward to participating this year. A returning vendor, the business specializes in beef by the piece including steaks, roasts, and hamburger patties. Pork products like ham and sausage will also be available for purchase. The business is once again anxious to serve their customers at this enhanced location.

“It’s going to be a big draw being in the park,” Sattazahn said. “From our perspective, we were really happy to see that move.” “We’ve been a vendor for four years, and are thrilled to be able to connect the farmer with the consumer,” she added. “We really enjoy speaking with the folks buying our products and the relationships we’ve built with them, as well as the pride in our products.”

The Lititz Farmers Market takes place every Thursday evening beginning May 17 and runs until October 11 (with a week off during the July 4th holiday). Hours are 4:30 p.m. to dusk, and will be staged in the front area of the Lititz Springs Park around the duck pond near the visitors center. The market is always looking for food trucks and musical entertainment throughout the season. If interested, contact Venture Lititz at 717-626-6332.
