The folks at Keller Bros. have been affiliated with the UDS Service Dogs Program for nearly 10 years, since Suzy Keller adopted a Yellow Lab named Zeke.

Last year, Keller Bros. donated a Ford Flex to the program to help with the transport of the canines. Zeke is pictured on the side the vehicle.

This year, Keller Bros. is sponsoring eight-week-old Somerset, a female Black Lab through the TAILS Program (Pups in Prison).

“The Keller Family are strong supporters of the UDS mission and believe in what we are doing to help people in our community be more independent having a service dog in their life,” said Lori Breece, UDS program manager. “We are blessed with having them as friends.”

In the TAILS Program, four puppies, ages eight weeks, will be raised in a prison setting (at SCI Pine Grove prison) by carefully selected inmates.

Over the next 18 months, the puppies will be trained to be service dogs by the inmates. Following the program, the hope is that these dogs will be placed in homes with people with disabilities, people with limited mobility, children with autism, or with military veterans.

UDS is a non-profit organization based in Lancaster and is committed to helping people with disabilities, including veterans and the aging, lead more independent and fulfilled lives. The Service Dogs Program was established in 1997 and joined UDS in 2000, quickly becoming the face of UDS through visibility of the dogs in the communities it serves.

UDS Service Dogs continues their campaign to raise the $13,000 needed to finance this program. Anyone

interested in supporting this campaign can contact Lori Breece at 397-1841 for further information.
