Fun with a twist

By on April 18, 2018

There’s lots to look forward to May 5 when the Lititz Kiwanis Club presents its annual Pretzel Fest from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Games, music, food and lots of fun will take place all over the downtown. The event not only celebrates the familiar salty snack that Lititz is known for, but it’s also a great way to raise money for area children in need.

Chairing the day-long festival this year is Lititz Kiwanis Club member Karen Davis. “We wanted it to be fun and not just food tastings,” she said. “We also wanted it to be affordable.”

Adult tickets, which entitle the bearer to full access to all of the offerings, are $10 each. Children 10 years of age and under are $5. “We chose pretzels because they are synonymous with Lititz,” Davis said. “The downtown retailers are hosts as well as contributors towards the grand prize gift basket. They’ve been very generous to us.”

Pretzels aren’t just a favorite crunchy treat for humans. This golden retriever wanted a sample.

Test your skill! “Minute to Win It” games will be staged at the following downtown locations: Aaron’s Books, Wilbur Chocolate, Renewal Kombucha, Moravian Mission Gift Shop, Purple Turtle, Main Street Peddler, Sturgis Pretzel House, Lititz Historical Foundation, and Lititz Ambulance Association. Adding to the fun will be balloon creations outside of Greco’s ice cream, face painting outside of Zum Anker Alley, and a bounce house near the Lititz Ambulance Association. Entertainment throughout the downtown will feature Victor Jenks, Ragtime Willi, Frank Porter, Temple Avenue Jazz Band, and many more.

Special tastings will be available for ticket holders at: Appalachian Brewing Company, Cherry Acres, Clemintines, Jo Boy’s, Sugar Whipped Bakery, Zest, Zum Anker Alley Shoppes, Greco’s Homemade Ice Cream, Min-D’s, and Linden Hall. Proceeds netted this year will benefit the Lititz recCenter’s free Summer Playground Program for kids in the Lititz area.

Tickets for the 2018 Lititz Pretzel Fest are available at Wilbur Chocolate, Aaron’s Books, McElroy Pharmacy, Shoppes at Zum Anker Alley, and Lititz Public Library.
