Bulls Head Public House nabs a pair of awards

Voters of an online survey named the Bulls Head “Pennsylvania’s Great American Beer Bar” for the third straight year.

That accolade from craftbeer.com would actually be the first of two awards recently collected by the traditional British “Public House”

USA Today followed, deeming the Lititz pub the nation’s “Best Beer Bar.” The paper was obviously aware of the Bulls Head’s reputation, said bar manager Carson Kegerreis.

“We landed on USA Today’s list because of the (Pennsylvania) best beer bar three-time award,” said Kegerreis. “They then narrowed the choices down to 20 locations across the United States, and opened up online voting to the public.” Each person could cast one vote per day, with the pub eventually being declared the winner, and beating out other similar establishments in much larger cities in the process.

The Bulls Head recently grabbed state and national trophies, first winning craftbeer.com’s survey to three-peat as Pennsylvania’s Great American Beer Bar and later capturing USA Today’s mantle of the nation’s Best Beer Bar.

“I’m still in shock. We went up against all these big cities, and pulled out a victory,” said Kegerreis. “We have such a faithful following.” To mark the occasion, a block party is planned in the near future. Additionally, an upgrade is currently scheduled for the building, which will include installing a cocktail bar in the upstairs lounge.

While both of these awards are great, employees and staff of the popular downtown destination are quick to thank their legions of dedicated fans that helped make these awards a reality.

“We are so appreciative of the local community, and the awards are a real testament to their loyalty,” Kegerreis said. When asked, he states that the secret to their success is hidden in the details.
“It’s the little things, like offering a unique beer list, being family friendly, and the lack of televisions which fosters more friendliness and communication between our customers,” he said. “We have the perfect formula.”
