Tickets available for Christmas at the Cloister

By on November 16, 2016

Christmas at the Cloister, the popular program of music and readings, will celebrate its 51st year on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 12 and 13, at the historic Ephrata Cloister.

Held in the Saal, the 275-year-old Meetinghouse, the program will be offered at 6:30 and 8 p.m. each evening. Featuring the Ephrata Cloister Chorus, the event ushers in the holiday season for hundreds of people each year. Along with favorite carols, the simple decorations and hot cider served afterward reflect the Pennsylvania German traditions of the historic community founded as a religious retreat in 1732. The program is a partnership with the Ephrata Cloister, the Ephrata Cloister Associates, and the Ephrata-Akron Area Magisterium.

Seating is limited to this event and advance tickets are required. Beginning Nov. 8, tickets can be purchased in The Museum Store at Ephrata Cloister. Tickets are $6 per person. Mail requests require a first and second choice of day and time, a self-addressed stamped envelope, and a check for the appropriate amount made payable to Ephrata Cloister Associates.

The Museum Store at Ephrata Cloister offers a wide selection of Christmas Cards including the current limited edition card featuring a photograph of the Saal decorated for the season by local photographer Craig Benner. There is also a wide selection of locally made crafts, books, traditional toys, and real bayberry candles for everyone on your gift list.

The Museum Store at Ephrata Cloister is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Sunday from noon to 4:45 p.m. For more information about Christmas at the Cloister or The Museum Store, call 733-6600 or check the website
