They call it the “Sweetest Spot in the Neighborhood,” and when you stop by the SquireSide Café in New Holland, you know why. There are yummy ice cream sundaes like Peanut Butter Madness and Berry Goodness. There are banana splits piled high with scoops of Turkey Hill ice cream, luscious sauces, whipped cream and a cherry on top. There’s fresh baked pie a la mode and dessert pizza with tasty toppings. It’s more than sweet dessert treats, though. One of the sweetest things of all is how you are welcomed into this cozy café at 504 A East Main Street in the heart of New Holland. The delightful servers take the time to get to know their customers and they treat them like family. “How was your vacation, Joe?” or “How are the grand kids, Ellen?” These are the things you hear every day at SquireSide Café. They really cater to your needs. If you don’t like pickles, no pickles. If you like your salad dressing on the side, as you wish. SquireSide Café serves it up just the way you like. You can build your own sandwiches, with a choice of meat, cheese, bread, sauces and toppings. You can have omelets’ or breakfast combos just the way you want. At SquireSide Café, it’s all about customers. It’s all about you. Owned by Jerry and Sharon Leaman since 1996, the café is an offshoot of their Country Squire Motor Inn next door. At first, they served breakfast at the motor inn, but customers wanted more, like hearty full-course breakfasts, tasty sandwiches, burgers and entrees, and delicious ice cream and sundaes. Even the

décor is heart-warming and welcoming, with pretty berry print wallpaper, red and white checked curtains, natural wood tables and a sunny white porch with a ceiling fan and airy windows. They have lots of regulars- book clubs, seniors, veterans, Red Hat ladies, football teams, sports fans, community groups and more- who make SquireSide Café part of their agenda for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some customers are there every day. They love the friendships and they love the food. There’s a lot to love too. Breakfast includes combos, omelets’, pancakes, French toast, eggs-any-way, and things like grilled sticky bun French toast or sweet Texas cinnamon French toast. The mini-combo has a little bit of everything, so can have your pancakes, eggs, sausage, ham and more. Then there is chipped beef on Tuesday- Sunday and sausage gravy on Monday. For lunch and dinner, there are burgers, baskets, club sandwiches, cheese steaks, tuna melts, pitas, sliders, Reubens, fish ‘n chips, chili con carne, soups, quesadillas, salads and so much more. You could have something different every day. There are hearty dinner salads, like the popular Taco Salad, which can also be ordered in half sizes. Be sure to save room for dessert, like ice cream cones and sundaes. When the weather gets nice, the ice cream window will be open, complete with outdoor picnic tables.
