Shamrocks & Shenanigans returns March 5

By on February 17, 2016

For one lucky night, experience the music, drink and celebration of a Celtic life. The second annual Shamrocks & Shenanigans storms into Ephrata on Saturday, March 5, from 7 to 11 p.m., at the American Legion Post 429, 300 Cocalico St., Ephrata.

The Legion will be thumping to the live music of the Kilmaine Saints and Down By The Glenside. Members of the Ceòl Nèamh Pipe Band will make a special appearance with their cacophony of bagpipes to kick off this pre-St. Patrick’s Day event.

Then, the Kilmaine Saints will explode onto the stage, jolting sleepy Ephrata and possibly waking the Ephrata Cloister dead from their monastic slumber. This high-energy Celtic rock band will have guests reeling in their kilts and raising their pints for more.

Down By The Glenside, a more traditional Celtic band, opens for the Saints. Their songs pay homage to the deeply rooted customs and lore of the homeland.

Last year’s Men in Kilts contest and Jig Contest proved to be essential fun. This year, both contests return, and are guaranteed to have the whole room on their feet, dancing and clapping. Prizes go to the winners strong enough to dance to the last and brave enough to take on Liz Malin’s of the Saints racing and relentless fiddle.

Black Forest Brewery has contributed kegs filled with their own special Irish Red brew for guests to fill their growlers and go back for seconds. A huge basket, stuffed with all things Irish, valued at more than $400 will be raffled toward the end of the night. A 50/50 raffle will also be held, so guests should come prepared.

Drink tickets for beer and wine will also be available for purchase throughout the night, with a fully stocked cash bar available in the restaurant.

The beneficiaries of Shamrocks & Shenanigans are the Winters Leadership Memorial and the Ephrata Public Library.

“The Shamrocks & Shenanigans benefit event proved to be a very logical joint venture to help raise funds to continue each other’s mission,” said Joy Ashley, director of development at the Ephrata Public Library. “Plus, it’s just a lot of fun.”

Last year’s inaugural Shamrocks & Shenanigans raised over $11,000 and contributed to the installation of the Major Dick Winters statue on the Linear Trail, as well as supported the library’s life-impacting programs to children and seniors.
