On the evening of June 25, The Air National Guard Band of the Northeast gave a stirring patriotic concert in the Lititz Springs Park band shell. Admission was free.

The band was under the direction of Capt. Joseph R Denti. Technical Sgt. Edward H. Vaughen served as assistant conductor.

The program was filled with patriotic favorites, as well as pop and Broadway numbers. The music included: John Williams’ “Star Wars” theme; “Route 66,” “America The Beautiful,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” Josh Groban’s “You Raise Me Up,” selections from the musical “Wicked,” and closed with John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.”

A small ensemble, Brass in Blue, also performed, under the direction of Technical Sergeant Andrew Lowe. The quintet’s repertoire spans five centuries, which enables them to perform selections from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, through and including popular music, jazz, marches and patriotic selections.

“The band loves coming to Lititz because the town is so receptive to them,” said Karen Harnly, a member of the Lititz Springs Park Board. “The crowd was quite large . We are so fortunate to have people that love Lititz events. The park would like to thank those who contributed to our free-will offering, since it helps with the park upkeep. The band receives no money from their performances since they are government employees and are paid by them to do this each summer.”

Founded in 1942, The Air National Guard Band of the Northeast is assigned the state mission of supporting regional Air National Guard units through performances in military ceremonies, by promoting recruitment and retention of Air National Guard members, and in annual public relations concert tours. A recent deployment included performing for troops in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Afghanistan.
