Manheim Farm Show kicks off Oct. 8

By on September 26, 2018

The Manheim Community Farm Show opens to spectators on Monday, Oct. 8 and wraps up on Oct. 12. As in previous years, it will be held at the Farm Show Complex off Adele Avenue. Activities are also held in areas of the adjacent Manheim Veterans Memorial Park.

This Farm Show will feature a mix of traditional and new activities. The baby parade will be held Oct. 8 at 6:15 p.m. Farm Show royalty are crowned immediately after at 7 p.m. The Farm Show parade through the downtown area is Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. Family Fun Night is Oct. 11, starting at 6:30 p.m. Sprinkle into the mix a mini-horse demo, an alpaca obstacle course, a firemen’s challenge, opportunities to pet animals, category judging, and, of course, the food.

“It’s possible to enjoy a day at our farm show without spending a cent,” claims Glenn Stoltzfus, president of the Farm Show.

But you’ll want to. Because the food is amazing.

One of the things that makes the Manheim Farm Show unique is that food stands are operated by community organizations. So when people line up for popular items such as fries, milkshakes (chocolate or vanilla), cheesesteaks, or chicken corn soup, they’re supporting the community.

According to the farm show website, those food stands earned over $107,000 in profit last year alone, and that money benefited local non-profits.

The Manheim FFA Children’s Farm Show is a great opportunity for the community to learn about the “Farm To Fork” agriculture system. Additionally, the Manheim Food Pantry is supported by the Manheim Young Farmer Food Drive during Farm Show week and the “door step” pick up during the parade.
