Lititz girl playing title role in Dutch Apple’s ‘Annie’

By on June 19, 2019

Piper Sobon of Lititz will be playing the title role in the upcoming Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre production. “Annie” will be staged June 27 through Aug. 10.

The story starts out in a New York City orphanage where many girls are living a rather glum life under the rule of the mean-spirited director, Miss Hannigan. Annie is a smart, street-wise girl who is one of the few orphans who believes her parents are returning for her. When billionaire Daddy Warbucks takes in Annie just for the Christmas holiday, she ends up warming his cold, business-minded heart. As he grows to love Annie, Warbucks decides to adopt her and goes on the radio to offer a reward for anyone who can identify themselves as Annie’s parents in hopes that they won’t show up. Miss Hannigan, her brother Rooster and girlfriend Lily plot to steal the reward money… and Annie.

Annie’s memorable songs are really what makes this show special. Whether it’s the orphans singing “It’s A Hard Knock Life,” or Miss Hannigan and friends scheming their evil plan in “Easy Street,” you are sure to leave the theatre humming. And don’t forget Annie’s endearing solos, “Maybe” and “Tomorrow.”

Annie brings a cast of professional adult actors, local children and even a dog to the Dutch Apple stage. The cast features 20 local youth double cast into two teams that can be seen throughout the run of the show.

Sobon, who played this role last summer at the Dutch Apple’s sister theatre Broadway Palm in Fort Myers, Fla., has also been seen at the Dutch Apple as Fan in “A Christmas Carol,” Jane in “Mary Poppins,” Cosette in “Les Miserables,” and Gracie in “The Music Man.” She is an active participant in the Broadway Bound summer camps at Dutch Apple, as well as a member of the Pulse Dance Competition Team.

All performances include Dutch Apple’s all you can eat buffet. Thursday performances have full table service. Dutch Apple is located at 510 Centerville Road, Lancaster. Purchase tickets online at or call 717- 898-1900.
