Notes from the Booth – by Penn Ketchum

It’s a crowded week with the Oscar nominations having been released Tuesday. The biggest nominee, “La La Land,” already has a full schedule and is playing at Penn Cinema and the Ephrata Main. “Moonlight” will come back to Penn Cinema this weekend, but in the meantime I expect “Resident Evil” to top the box office, although “Gold” will certainly give it a run.

“Hidden Figures” and “La La Land” continue to be crowd favorites. Disney’s decision to release a sing-along version of “Moana” reflects not only their desire to milk a couple more bucks out of the title, but also the lack of family-friendly options (How many times can you see “Sing?”). Parents, relax, “The Lego Batman Movie” opens Feb. 3, and it is hilarious! Until then, it’s Oscar season.
