Holiday events at Landis Valley

By on November 29, 2017

Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum has a number of holiday themed events planned.

Country Christmas Village

Where do many of our most beloved Christmas traditions come from? Right here in Pennsylvania. Come warm your spirit and experience Pennsylvania German contributions to the celebration of the season as you tour decorated buildings and a Civil War winter camp, see traditional holiday foods prepared in the tavern, and meet “der Belsnickel.” Children can make seasonal crafts with a Santa theme to take home and families can enjoy wagon rides around the site.

This event is set for Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Dec. 3, from noon to 4 p.m. The cost is $12 for adults; $10 for seniors; and $8 for ages 3 to 11. The event is free for ages 2 and under, and Landis Valley Associates members.

Post a letter to Santa at the Landis Valley Post Office. Landis Valley once had a working post office and they’re opening it again to accept letters to Santa Claus. Kids will learn about Santa from the education department and craft the perfect letter in their best penmanship. Then, each child will put their letter in an envelope and drop it off in the post office in the back of the country store. Landis Valley will send them to the North Pole and each letter will receive a reply from Santa.

Parents should fill out a permission form so that we can post your child’s letter. The cost is $1 for postage.

Visit the Yellow Barn for performances by Victorian dancers. Starting at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. on Saturday only, see favorites from the 1860s like the Virginia Reel, square dances, and the waltz and when the demonstrations are done, you’re invited to participate in more dancing.

For Sunday, Landis Valley welcomes handbell ringer Ron Bellamy as he performs in the Yellow Barn. From 1 to 4 p.m. Ron will perform and invite families to play and sing carols. It’s a fun and interactive time for all.

Revelers can meet “der Belsnickel” Dec. 2 and 3 at the Country Christmas Village event at Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum.

Artist Showcase

An artist showcase will be held at the Landis Valley Museum store, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This showcase is free.

PA Dutch Christmas

Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum welcomes the community to spend an evening with them, free of charge, to celebrate a Pennsylvania Dutch Christmas on Friday evening, Dec. 15, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Take a wagon ride, tour several of the decorated historic buildings, huddle around a large bonfire and sing carols accompanied by the Lititz Moravian Trombone Choir. Afterwards, join friends and family in our Yellow Barn for cookies and hot cider.

Landis Valley asks that visitors bring one or more non-perishable food item to the event. Donations will go to the Lancaster Food Bank.

Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum is located at 2451 Kissel Hill Road, Lancaster. To learn more, visit
