Ephrata Cloister to offer summer internships

By on January 25, 2017

For more than 250 years, visitors have been coming to explore the historic Ephrata Cloister, a fascinating religious community in northern Lancaster County. The museum has announced the opportunity for college students who have completed their freshman year to apply for internships at the National Historic Landmark during the summer months.

Two internship options are available, the Keystone Internship Program, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, and the internship provided directly by the historic site. Interns in both programs will be engaged in interpretation of the museum to visitors.

Interns also provide visitor services to help guests discover the culture of the region. Public speaking and public interaction are major elements of the programs. The internships will provide valuable hands-on experience for those interested in a career in education, public history and the hospitality industry.

Interns in the Keystone program will work between May 15 and Aug. 11. Interns in the Ephrata Cloister program can participate before or after these dates, but are requested to commit to 12 weeks of work. Both intern programs are unpaid and require a 20-hour per week commitment with some weekend work included. Internships are available for academic credit based on the requirements of the student’s school.

The deadline for applications is Feb. 10. Applications for the Keystone program are available at: phmc.pa.gov/About/Join/Pages/Internships.aspx. Internships sponsored by the Ephrata Cloister should contact the site at EphrataCloister1732@gmail.com.
