EPAC sweeps BroadwayWorld awards

When the 2018 BroadwayWorld Central Pennsylvania Awards were announced recently, the region discovered what most of us “locals” already know &tstr; EPAC is amazing!

Ephrata Performing Arts Center won 13 of the 22 awards given annually, voted on by regional theatergoers. Regional productions, touring shows, and more were all included in the awards, honoring productions which opened between Oct. 1, 2017 through Sept. 30, 2018.

EPAC won the following awards:

Hand to God

  • Best Actress in a Play – Kristie Ohlinger
  • Best Featured Actor in A Play – Brian Viera

Peter and the Starcatcher

  • Best Ensemble Performance in a Play
  • Best Play
  • Best Actor in a Play – Jordon Ross Weinhold
  • Best Director for a Play – Lydia Brubaker & Pat Kautter
  • Best Featured Actress in a Play – Gabby Sheller

EPAC’s “Peter and the Starcatcher” won the 2018 BroadwayWorld Central Pennsylvania Award in several categories, including Best Play. The cast was honored as Best Ensemble Performance in a Play. Actor Jordon Ross Weinhold (back, center) won Best Actor in a Play for his turn as Black Stache. Gabby Sheller (center), who played Molly, won Best Featured Actress in a Play. Co-directors Lydia Brubaker and Pat Kautte won for Best Director of a Play.

West Side Story

  • Best Musical
  • Best Featured Actress in a Musical – Cara Clase
  • Best Actor Under 18 – Bailey Ammons

Sweeney Todd

  • Best Set Design – Mike Rhodes
  • Best Costume Design – Kate Willman
  • Best Director for a Musical – Edward Fernandez

“EPAC is overjoyed that we had such a successful 2018 season,” said Artistic Director Ed Fernandez. “We had more audience attending our productions than ever before and donations from sponsorship and from individuals were at a record high. Due to the increase in donations, ticket sales, and sponsorships, we were able to end our season on a very healthy financial note. The Broadwayworld.com Awards are a cherry on the proverbial cake. Winning in all those categories showed us that there was a tremendous amount of excitement from the public about our 2018 season. We couldn’t be more happy!”

Titanic: The Musical

Servant Stage Company, known for their wholesome selections and pay-what-you-will productions packed with quality, also won two awards for “Titanic: the Musical.” They were:

  • Best Lighting Design – Tim Moser
  • Best Musical Direction – Kendra Bigley

Servant Stage Company’s “Titanic: The Musical” won two BWW awards.
