Authors of dessert cookbook coming to Swiss Woods

On Sunday afternoon, Sept. 8, local chef and innkeeper Debbie Mosimann will be introducing and signing her new cookbook, “Desserts.”

She will be joined by three other long-time innkeepers and chefs from New York, Delaware, and Massachusetts who also helped to create this new cookbook. These four are part of a team who call themselves 8 Broads in the Kitchen.

The event will take place from 2 to 4  p.m. at Swiss Woods Bed & Breakfast Inn, 500 Blantz Road, north of Lititz near Speedwell Forge Lake. Everyone is invited to drop by to visit with the authors and to sample a few recipes from the cookbook. There is no admission charge.

The 8 Broads in the Kitchen are eight women who have been long-time innkeepers and chefs from across the U.S. Ten years ago, they put their heads and talents together to create a blog at a time when few people had even heard of a blog. Through the blog, they have connected with friends, inn guests, family, fellow innkeepers, and cooks and bakers throughout the U.S. and beyond.

Their blog eventually led them to creating a presence on many social media sites, consulting, and presenting webinars, as well as workshops at local, regional, and national events. And now cookbooks. They will also be signing their earlier collaboration, a full-color cookbook, “Breakfast & Brunch Recipes.”

“I guess you could say that we love stirring up fun in the kitchen,” Mosimann says. “We’re on a sugar high, celebrating our 10th anniversary with the publication of our sweetest 8 Broads cookbook yet, ‘Desserts!’ We may even have sacrificed our waistlines and loosened our belts to bring the public our best 150 dessert recipes ever!”

“Desserts!” has a variety of sweet treasures: from recipes for cakes, cookies, cobblers, crisps, and cocktails, to pies and puddings; from family favorites and fruit desserts to icy treats; from prize winners to foreign accents. They’ve even included easy and fun recipes for kids,or for the kid in you. The cookbook also includes 100 full-color photos.

The 8 Broads had lots of help in creating this cookbook, commandeering taste testers from their families, friends, and friends of friends.

“Not all superheroes wear capes,” Mosimann smiles, licking icing from her finger. “Some wear aprons and create irresistible Desserts!”
