Students at Bonfield Elementary School presented “Willy Wonka Jr.” on April 27.

“Willy Wonka Jr” follows the journey of five lucky golden ticket winners as they enter into the enigmatic candy factory of Willy Wonka, a master candy maker who is just about to retire and ready to find an heir to his factory. They all learn lessons along the way.

“This show business thing is no joke,” said co-director Marni Van Grouw. “It was my first year directing at Bonfield after the previous director (of 30-plus years) retired. Talk about big shoes to fill!”

Van Grouw, who also had an artistic hand in set design, posted many Facebook updates and photos as showtime grew closer, getting the community excited about the production. She co-directed the show with Cathy Dommel.

Evangeline Strayer as Veruca Salt.
