Garbers married 50 years

Carl and Sharon (Moser) Garber, Lititz, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 19, 2017. They celebrated with their family in the Poconos in July.

They were married Aug. 19, 1967, at Lowville Mennonite Church in Lowville, N.Y. The ceremony was officiated by the bride’s cousin, Bishop Richard Zehr.

Carl was born in West Liberty, Ohio, to Joseph Garber (Akron, Pa.) and Thelma Hostetler (West Liberty, Ohio) and moved with them to Alberta, Canada, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Alberta. He later earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was employed by UW Medical Center, then by the DuPont Co. and most recently by Quest Diagnostics in New Jersey. Carl retired in 2014 and the couple moved to Lititz. Carl enjoys genealogy, music, stamp collecting, and the Green Bay Packers.

Sharon was born in Lowville, N.Y., to Elmer and Mabel Moser and graduated from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va., with a bachelor’s degree in home economics. She taught school and later worked as a secretary in two church offices. Sharon was also an AWANA leader/director for 20 years. She is an avid quilter, lover of music, and enjoys photography.

The couple are parents of three daughters: Devonna Beebe (Greg) of Hamilton, N.J.; Wendy Haylett (Timothy) of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Rebecca Leone (Daniel) of Derry, N.H. They also have six grandchildren.

They have enjoyed world-wide travel to Europe, Israel, Canada, the Bahamas, Mexico, China, and Japan, and are looking forward to a return trip to Israel in celebration of their 50th anniversary. They both extend gratitude and praise to the Lord for leading them and sustaining them throughout their married lives.
