Violet M. Allwein, 87, of Luther Acres, Lititz, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Hospice of Lancaster County.

She was the loving wife of Robert C. Allwein and they celebrated 65 years of marriage last July 25. 

Born in Lititz, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Kathryn Rauch Witmyer. 

A graduate of the Lititz High School class of 1938, Violet was a National Honor Society Member. She started her professional career as a teletype operator at Armstrong Cork Company and then she went to work at Fulton Bank as a savings teller. She later was employed as a secretary for Warner Lambert, Lititz, Hollywood Federal Savings and Loan Assoc., Hollywood, Fla., and was the secretary to the Traffic Manager at RCA, Lancaster.

A past member of the National Secretary's Society, Violet was a former member and past secretary of the Lititz Senior Citizens Club. She was a member of the National DESA Ladies' Auxillary, the "Twalkers" of Park City, she volunteered at Luther Acres, was a 35 year member of the Carousel Dance Club and was a former Sunday school teacher and pianist at her church, the Lititz United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included walking, cooking and collecting cookbooks from her travels, "sitting" the great-grandchildren and traveling.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four sons, Kenneth L. (Jane) Allwein, Barry D. (Deborah) Allwein and Gerald L. (Frances) Allwein, all of Lititz; Sidney J. (Monica) Allwein, Virginia Beach, Va.;  11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Kloss.

Relatives and friends attended her Life Celebration Memorial Service July 22 at the Lititz United Methodist Church, Lititz. Interment is to be at the convenience of her family.
