Manheim -

On Wednesday evening, May 21 more than 150 Manheim Central High School students, grades 9-12 received approximately $100,000 in scholarships and awards, provided by the generous donations of local businesses and community groups.

Highlights included the announcement of the valedictorian, Allison Byrne, daughter of Sheri Byrne-Long, Lititz, and Richard Byrne, North Aurora, Ill., and the salutatorian, Alex D'Angelo, son of Michael and Paula D'Angelo, Manheim.

Also presented was the most prestigious honor given by Manheim Central — the Order of the Baron Von Stiegel Award, provided by the local fire police association, — awarded to Christine McGrath, daughter of Anne Kulp, Manheim and Thomas McGrath, Columbia. The Baron Von Stiegel award is voted on by the entire student body and by the faculty, and is based on the three criteria of scholarship, leadership, and character.
