Lititz -
Sweet strawberries, ice cream, shortcakes, whipped cream, iced tea, and
lemonade — What more could you want?
Old Zion Church on
Reifsnyder Road, Brickerville will offer all of these summer favorites plus
homemade chicken corn soup at the annual Strawberry Festival on Saturday
June 14, from 4-7 p.m.
The event is overlooking the Brubaker Valley,
which has been the same view since 1813 when the church was built. Visitors
are encouraged to bring folding chairs and blankets to relax and enjoy one
of Lancaster's County's hidden treasures.
For history buffs,
Old Zion's board members will be present to share the rich history of
the original colonial church. This year a portion of the proceeds from the
Strawberry Festival and any donations will be contributed to the Good
Family Fund, c/o Sovereign Bank. Jean Good was the Old Zion board's
vice president. She and her husband were killed in a car accident returning
from their daughter's college graduation. Their daughter remains in the
hospital in critical condition.
The remaining proceeds from the
Strawberry Social help maintain the church's property. This is one of
the few times that the church is open to the public. Old Zion hosts a
Christmas Carol Sing Along in December, and Anniversary Service in
September, and Easter Sunrise Service and private
weddings.
Directions: Route 501 North, turn right at Brubaker Valley
Road traffic light, left onto Reifsnyder Road. Look for Old Zion Strawberry
Social signs.
