Lititz -
The following Warwick High School students have been accepted to attend the
prestigious and highly competitive Governor's Schools of Excellence
across the state this summer:
Jordan Turner, Global
Entrepreneurship; Kyle Baker, Information, Society, and Technology; Austin
Carter, International Studies, Teaching, and Urban Teaching (she will
attend International Studies); Bryanne Noritsky, Arts; Chris Elliott,
Sciences, Agricultural Science (he will attend Sciences); Shannon Evans,
Arts; Chris Striker, Teaching; Joey Cassidy, Health Care alternate; Kate
Whiting, International Studies, alternate; and Nadine Zerphey, first round
Arts.
To be accepted by the Governor's Schools is a high honor,
as it is highly selective and highly competitive in nature. Two Warwick
students, Austin Carter and Chris Elliot, were accepted to multiple
Governor's Schools.
The eight Pennsylvania Governor's
Schools of Excellence are summer residential programs committed to meeting
the educational needs of artistically or academically talented high school
students through five-week long summer residential programs on college
campuses. Since the initiation of the Pennsylvania Governor's School
for the Arts in 1973 (the others were added between 1982 and 1999), the
Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence have served over 12,000
students from across the state.
Currently, the programs serve 756
each summer. There are typically 3,700 to 4,200 applicants each
year.
